Windows 7 compatible software (Security)

August 24, 2009

The more, the better

The moment we installed and started using Windows 7, we couldn’t stop admiring the impressive changes and improvements in almost every aspect of the OS. Security, as we mentioned in some of the previous articles, is certainly one of those aspects. It’s worrying, though, how many people, even companies, are trying to create malicious software whose purpose is to get into as many as possible systems and wreak havoc. This is why, even if your Windows 7 OS is still in pre-release version, you should seriously consider installing additional protection, an antivirus software application developed by some renowned company. Though at first it may seem strange that there should be software for an OS version that hasn’t been officially released yet, we were pleased to find out that a lot of world’s best selling antivirus software is currently compatible with Windows 7. By the looks of it, Microsoft decided to play it safe concerning the compatibility of their newest OS, which was not the case with Vista.   In the rest of this article, we will present few of the world’s best selling antivirus software that are fully compatible with Windows 7.

1.  Norton – one of the world known companies that provides security suits. Together with Microsoft, they developed one of the first security solutions fully compatible with Windows 7. Thus, Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton AntiVirus 2010, still in beta phase, integrate completely into the new working environment and protect you while you work and browse the web. The moment Windows 7 is officially released, Norton will automatically upgrade the versions of the previously mentioned security suites (this applies for 2009 editions) as well as Norton 360 3.

2.  Kaspersky – The all too good Kaspersky couldn’t just lay low and not interfere in the race for the best Windows 7 compatible security suite. That they entered the race prepared, we have Kaspersky Anti-Virus Technology Preview for Windows 7 as proof. It was introduced in January 2009, and now, you can download its successor – the RC version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6.0 Maintenance Pack 4. This security suit should protect all of the working stations in a network from all kinds of malicious software and hacker attacks.

3.  AVG – is one of the most popular and widely used antivirus software, mostly because of its completely free version. Alternatively, you have a commercial and more powerful version as well. This antivirus solution has been used by 80 million users and that’s saying a lot about its popularity. What we’re interested in right now, though, is to find Windows 7 compatible antivirus solution and if it’s free, then even better. AVG 8 is exactly what we were looking for.  AVG Anti-Virus 8.5 Free Edition is one of the few free, but quality solutions that consist both of antivirus and antispyware real time protection. On the other hand, the commercial version, AVG 8.5 Internet Security includes spam protection, firewall, and free support as well.
