It’s the little things that make life fun

When the gadgets appeared for the first time, a lot of users took them for granted. These mini applications usually displayed entertaining or informative contents and were installed mostly by younger users. After Vista, though, things drastically changed. When gadgets came preinstalled with the operating system Vista, more and more users became aware of all of the benefits that they offer. The variety of gadgets expanded and besides the regular reminder, calendar, and clock, there were gadgets whose functions were to closely track the state of critical hardware (such as CPU temperatures) and inform of possible disasters, such as system instability or physical damage. The newest operating system, Windows 7, is picking up where Vista left off. You will have access to the most used gadgets, as well as the possibility to add those that you need or remove those that you don’t. Contained in the next several paragraphs are the most exciting and widely used Windows 7 compatible gadgets.

CPU Meter – We had the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with this particular gadget when Vista was released. The neat and simple design, as well as the excellent functionality, makes this gadget a must-have for every Windows 7 enthusiast. With its help, you can track the usage of both system memory and the CPU and find out if some of the running applications are far more demanding. There’s no tweaking and decoding of complex information; there are just basic readouts of certain hardware elements in your PC. This gadget can be very helpful if, for example, your system becomes sluggish but you’re unsure of the reason for it. CPU Meter, in similar situations, can help you pinpoint the applications that use too much resource. Due to these reasons, it is advisable that you have the gadget running in your new Windows 7 working environment, regardless of whether you’re novice or a professional.

Wired and Wireless Network Meter Gadget – These two gadgets will save you a lot of time by telling you if you’re connected to the network; they will also inform you of the strength of the signal, and answer you a lot of other questions concerning monitoring network. Both wired and wireless gadgets look and function alike, though there are some evident differences depending on the connection. Thus, the Wired Network Meter Gadget will display information concerning your IP address, the network you’re connected to, as well as the device you’re using for establishing connection. You will also get additional information concerning the speed of downloading and uploading the documents on and from the network. Wireless Network Meter Gadget, besides the above mentioned monitoring potential, will provide you with information about the wireless network you’re connected to, as well as the list of other available networks. You can also see which networks are password protected and which aren’t. In situations when you don’t have better choice concerning network connection, this could prove to be really helpful.

Windows Media Center – This is the only new gadget that hasn’t been included in Vista but can be found in Windows 7. On the whole, it allows you to access the basic functions of the Windows Media Center application and successfully watch television, videos, pictures, or listen to your favorite tunes.

Presently, many Windows 7 compatible gadgets are at your fingertips. A lot of the incompatible gadgets, though, are being prepared for the final version of this operating system. Since we don’t have enough room to list all of the gadgets, we should briefly mention some of their advantages in Windows 7. Probably the most interesting feature, at least to those who can afford the hardware is the possibility to enter the commands by touch. Another interesting improvement is that these gadgets will continue working offline, which was not the case with Vista. When the computer isn’t connected to the net, the gadgets will continue displaying, for example, the weather or the Stock Exchange info. Additional bar will be notifying you how stale the info is.
