Windows Live Essentials

September 4, 2009

Many years ago, even before the beginnings of Windows operating systems, the company at Redmond was paying special attention on the system-additional applications, that is, applications that are coming preinstalled with the system and are available for download later, if needed. That’s why it’s become a trend of a sort to have all kinds of applications installed on the system so that people wouldn’t go the effort of installing one. This also resulted in huge installation packages, slow operating systems and bigger chances for errors. Because of the relation between the application and the system, an error in application could lead to issues with the system.

For those reasons, the developers of Windows 7 decided to put an end to that practice and distribute just the basic applications with the system; everything else could be easily downloaded and installed later on. So a novice shouldn’t be too surprised if after the installation of the OS doesn’t find an e-mail client or some of the multimedia programs he used before in Vista. To all of you that think all of your favorite applications for chat, sharing, communication and fun have been lost in Windows 7, we present Windows Live Essentials. As the name implies, this is a set of essential tools that aren’t part of the operating system now but can be. In Windows 7, you’re just a click away from downloading and installing the package. We can classify the applications in several groups: electronic mail and chat clients, then entertainment and multimedia, surfing and blogging. Here are some of the successors of the most-known programs. You’ll be happy to know that a lot of them now have an abundance of features.

Windows Live Mail – is a successor of the several mail clients that had their appearance in the previous OS versions, such as Outlook Express in Windows XP and Windows Mail in Vista. Understandably, this email client has all of the good features from the previous versions included. On the other hand, things that bugged most of the users are either greatly improved or removed from the client completely. Now, from one place you can control all of the email accounts you posses. You’ll also be able to sort the messages in separate folders and search through their content at any time.

Windows Live Photo Gallery – Is advanced photo organizer and editor. It allows you to create photo albums that you can later on safely store or share with others by using the different servers and social networks. The editor has also been greatly improved from the previous version in Vista OS. Now, you can precisely adjust the color and sharpness of the picture and also be able to create panoramic pictures thanks to the technology that’s been developed and incorporated by Microsoft.

Windows Live Writer – is the real tool for the real bloggers. As a blogger, now you don’t have to concern yourself with the design of your posts. All you need to concern yourself with is the way you write, nothing else. With the help of this WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor you’ll be able to easily enter and format text and pictures, design table and publish all of it on one of the most renown blog services in the world. From now on, you can rest assured that everything on your blog will be the way you’ve imagined it.

Windows Live Family Safety – is a program that every conscientious parent must have while his/her child is on the internet. On the web, there are a lot of contents that mustn’t be seen by your children and since physically no one can control this process there is an option for automatic monitoring and filtering of the content. These are the main features of the latest version of this program which, by-the-way is fully compatible with Windows 7.
