Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) Review Part(2)

September 27, 2009

Now to the important parts, feature in Win 7. A few reasons why Windows Vista are hated, compatibility issues & bad sources utilized. Even with the Netbook I’m using, Vista runs slow with Aero effects turned on. Of course you can try to turn off the Aero effects, but that’d totally destroy the purpose of the new operating system. The Aero system was supposed to help users to complete their task faster and more easily. By turning off the Aero, all you left is a broken OS that’s no better than XP. Such disastrous OS shouldn’t be released at the first place.

Fortunately, Windows 7 fixed most software compatibility issues and Aero is a pleasure to use even on a low-end hardware such as Netbooks. I’m not going to mention every feature in Win 7 as the review is getting too long, I know I know, I can cut it to half if I left out my nonsense comment, but I just have to say it. I’ll just talk about some features that I liked most in Windows 7. First and foremost, the jump lists. Basically, it groups all windows into a single program icon, when roll over it’ll display all open windows above the taskbar. For example: In Windows XP, you open a windows viewing C: drive & another viewing D: drive content. You’ll see two windows tabs at your taskbar. But in Windows 7 you’ll only see one grouped all windows under my computer icon. Try rolling over my computer icon and you’ll see the two windows display on top side by side. Roll over between the windows will let you view the content, click on it and the selected window will stay on the background. Jump lists helps to organize your taskbar, it never feel messy even with 10 or 20 open windows.

The next thing that I really love is the gadgets. I’m sure Vista users should be familiar with this function. But slight improvement has been made for Windows 7. In Windows vista, you can only drag the gadgets into the limited container at the right hand side. In Win 7 you can put wherever and as much as you like on your available desktop space. For those who doesn’t know about these gadget, it’s small little thing such as clock, calendar, CPU meter, currency converter, calculator that you might use very often. By placing it on the desktop, you no longer have to click here and there. Everything is just right on the desktop for you to view or use. Hopefully more cool gadgets made by users will be available soon after Windows 7 release. The last features I’m going to talk about are pin any programs to taskbar. When you open a program, the windows will stay on the taskbar, but it’ll disappear when you close the program. Pin to taskbar let you pin and unpin any open windows onto the taskbar. This is especially useful to use to pin your most frequent use programs on the taskbar for easy access. Not only you can pin it to the taskbar, you can also pin most use files under the program. Just right click on the icon and you’ll prompted with pin and unpin option.

It’s time to end my review with my overall impressions, but I feel like I’ve missed so much in the review. I guess this is why peoples say 1000 words is not enough to express your love. I really enjoy the sleek interface and the whole Aero experience, it’s something new to me and it’s really cool. I’ll definitely upgrade after I find a solution to my drivers problem. If you are using Vista, I see no reason why you shouldn’t upgrade. If you are using XP, you might want to check on the software compatibility issues first. If you are buying a new computer, notebook or netbook, go for Windows 7. It’s time for Windows XP to rest and us to move on.

After the release of Windows 7 or maybe sooner, I’ll try to post some cool tips & trick from my experience. Share yours too!
