No, you can’t. You can only upgrade to Windows 7 by overwritting an existing Windows partition as Microsoft treats dual boot separately. Unless you have two licenses on your computer, you will need to buy the full copy of Windows 7. That’s the case where you want to keep the old operating system and install Windows 7 in second drive to create dual boot.

Microsoft said on Wednesday that it is notifying approximately 800 workers that their jobs are being eliminated as the software giant completes the layoffs it announced earlier this year.
In January, Microsoft said it would cut approximately 5,000 positions before the end of the next fiscal year, which ends in June. With the latest cuts, Microsoft said it has essentially completed those layoffs. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in May that it was mostly, but not entirely, done with the job eliminations.
Actually, though, the latest cuts will push Microsoft past that 5,000 number. Once these cuts are made, it will [...] Continue Reading…

Mozilla may have released the first beta of Firefox 3.6 nearly two months late, but the organization believes the final version still will arrive on schedule before the end of the year.
The Mozilla wiki page on version 3.6, code-named Namoroka, listed early September for the scheduled release of the first beta, but it actually arrived October 30. Despite that, Mike Shaver, vice president of engineering, said Mozilla wants to release the browser before the holidays and is sticking by the overall schedule for the open-source Web browser.
“We’re still looking at a release candidate in November and (final) release in [...] Continue Reading…

Ever since I started using a computers, I’ve been using the “Prt Sc” button to take images of my desktop, and it has never cross my mind to use other software to do the job until Microsoft introduce the new snipping tool software that come free with Windows 7. Three new features are now available to Windows 7 users of the new beta release of Firefox. Firefox 3.6 beta 1 introduces enhanced previews for both the new Win7 taskbar and the tabs.
The taskbar previews for tabs brings Firefox into parity with Internet Explorer 8, allowing users to see and select their open tabs via Aero Peek. The obvious limitation with this feature is how it impacts the display when you’ve got a high number of tabs open. As you open more tabs, their preview panes will shrink.
Firefox 3.6 beta 1 will show individual preview windows for each tab [...] Continue Reading…

Microsoft appears to be getting relatively strong early adoption of Windows 7 in the 10 days since its official launch.
According to Net Applications, more than 3 percent of PCs accessing the Web in the past two days have been doing so using the new operating system. Usage of the operating system has been growing strong in recent days, though Win 7 already accounted for 2 percent of global Web traffic in the days ahead of its formal launch.
“The early adoption of Win 7 looks very strong, and I don’t believe Vista enjoyed the same early success,” said Vince Vizzaccaro, [...] Continue Reading…

Have you ever been hurt by a lover who went back to her ex?
Have you ever experienced that constant troubling frisson, even when you were with them, that it was only a matter of time?
Well, might I offer you a little televisual solace? Jerry Seinfeld, he who walked a mile in Bill Gates’ shoes with the man himself, has gone back to his first wife, the Mac.
It seems almost a movie from an alien world to remember Jerry and Bill buying shoes and moving in with a normal American family.
I know some found these ads bizarre. I found that [...] Continue Reading…

In Windows Vista, Microsoft gave us the first taste of User Account Control. It was designed to protect the operating system (OS) from malware by locking the Desktop and then confronts you with a warning dialog asking you – the user – to confirm or deny the operation in question. A good idea but, in the eyes of many users, imperfect execution. In Vista, the administrator could either have it on or off. This feature was meant to protect you from something harmful being installed and ensuring system settings remained intact. Thus, you either used it, then had to [...] Continue Reading…

By the time the second Beta version of Microsoft’s Windows 7 was released, the team responsible for the various applets in the Windows operating systems (OS) had finally had their new versions of three important features included in the package. These consisted of WordPad, Paint and Calculator – they have finally grown up. There are really four of them, though, as Notepad is a part of this important group. So, what is so great about this? Well, let’s see…
We will look at Notepad first as it has not changed at all. This applet has been a part of Windows [...] Continue Reading…

Just before the released of Windows 7, Microsoft teamed up with Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the famous variety show to create a special episode of Family Guy to promote Microsoft Windows 7. But unfortunately, after reviewing the content of the episode, Microsoft decided to pull out from sponsoring. So what happened?
Well, apparently Microsoft think that the show doesn’t represent Windows 7 brand very well and discovered it would “include riffs on deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest.” Microsoft is still one of the sponsor companies, but it’ll not be the main sponsors, so you won’t be [...] Continue Reading…
