Windows 7 – How much will it cost

When Microsoft releases an operating system (OS), they will always produce a list of pricing and the OS SKUs – “Stock-Keeping Unit” for each version, for example Windows 7 Home Premium is one SKU and Windows 7 Professional is another. For Windows 7, there are some major changes to this list.

First of all, the name of one SKU has been altered from when Vista was released. The Windows Vista Business had gone back to the old Windows XP structure and will be called Windows 7 Professional for this OS. This appears to be a way for Microsoft to put [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 Media Center

Microsoft has improved the Windows Media Center (WMC) in the new Windows 7 operating system release. These changes are rather significant and are different from both Windows Vista and Windows XP. So, let us take these one at a time and see how well this part of the OS has been designed for use. (NOTE: The Windows Media Center is only available in the Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate versions.)

The first major change – and it is major – is that you no longer need to open the Media Center environment and select the task you wish to use. [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 – Backup and Restore

If you have used Windows Backup and Restore in any previous operating system (OS) other than Vista, you know that you had the option to select specific files or folders which Windows would automatically or manually back-up for you. Windows Vista only allowed you to select from a set of ‘file categories’ to back-up. These categories were items like Music, Videos, Documents and the like. Many users complained a great deal about this limitation, and Microsoft actually listened and has reverted to the old-style back-up features which most of us are used to.

To launch Windows Backup and Restore, you [...] Continue Reading…

Is my computer capable of running Windows 7?

The official release of Windows 7 is just around the corner. A lot of people may have already told you how great the newest OS is; how it does not require abundance of resources and how not only is it compatible with Windows XP applications but also elegant and slick as Vista.  Even so, you might be a bit skeptical about it, and that is perfectly okay. You might be unsure whether all of your hardware devices will work on the newest OS, or whether hardware manufacturers will release the appropriate drivers [...] Continue Reading…

How much RAM does Windows 7 use

Since Windows 7 have this gadgets that shows both CPU & RAM usage in real time, I thought some of our readers might be interested in knowing how much RAM does Windows 7 use. As you may know, Microsoft official site stated 1 GB RAM to be the recommended minimum to run Windows 7. Is that true? Technically, yes.

The test was conducted on a 1GB RAM Netbook (Asus eeepc 1000HE) with clean Windows 7. That means there’s no program running on the background or other third-party software install in it. With Aero Glass themes, Windows 7 uses around 40% [...] Continue Reading…

How Windows 7 different from Vista

An important aspect to remember before looking at differences between Microsoft’s Vista and their latest OS is that Windows 7 is actually closer to an updated version of Vista, as in “Vista Release 2.” Even Gartner Group considers it a “polishing release” – much more than just a service pack, but less than a complete re-build of the Vista operating system.

So, we will start with some important similarities between the two OSes in order to help understand what is different. For instance, the version structure of Vista will still apply to Windows 7. The only major difference is that [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 & Windows XP Interface Comparison

Let’s take a look at how much it has been changed on the graphical side of Windows 7 since Xp.  A side by side comparison of the past and future! Please take note that all Windows 7 screen shot’s you are looking at are Aero Glass themes, a more graphical intensive interface.  In Windows 7 you can switch between the Aero Glass or the basic themes.  The basic themes cuts away all the eye-candy such as the Aero glass & real time effects, thus it’ll run faster on lower specs computer if necessary.  The basic themes still looks great [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) Review Part(1)

I’ve been using Windows 7 RC version for around a month now. I think it’s about the right time to write an initial review before the general version release on Oct 22nd. Please note that the RC is a Beta test version released to the public for review & bugs report. Any bugs that I mentioned in my review might be fixed in the final release. It’s no longer available for download, I was lucky enough to get my hands on it from a friend. Thou, you should still be able to download the Enterprise Trial version at Microsoft [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) Review Part(2)

Now to the important parts, feature in Win 7. A few reasons why Windows Vista are hated, compatibility issues & bad sources utilized. Even with the Netbook I’m using, Vista runs slow with Aero effects turned on. Of course you can try to turn off the Aero effects, but that’d totally destroy the purpose of the new operating system. The Aero system was supposed to help users to complete their task faster and more easily. By turning off the Aero, all you left is a broken OS that’s no better than XP. Such disastrous OS shouldn’t be released at [...] Continue Reading…

Windows7 vs Snow Leopard Part(4) – Pricing, Features & The Winner

We end this series of articles by discussing few more relevant things. While some of the impressions we are to mention clearly depend on your personal taste and preference, one thing may help you decide which of the two operating systems to purchase – The price.

And when it comes to the sum of money you need to set aside, Snow Leopard is without a doubt the winner. The worst case scenario for Apple’s OS, in case you are using one of the older versions (such as Tiger), is to set aside 169$ in order to purchase the Box version. [...] Continue Reading…
