Windows 7 vs Snow Leopard Part (3) – Hardware requirements & Compatibility

We wrote quite a lot on the upcoming confrontation between the two leading commercial operating systems. The Microsoft’s Windows 7 and Apple’s Snow Leopard are due to be released, and with them so is the merciless uproar for grabbing as many users as possible. But we did forget to mention one thing. The personal computers did not appear today, yesterday, or the day before. People (especially in a time of crisis) who cannot afford to upgrade their hardware components would really like to know how these operating systems will work on their older machines; will they be compatible with [...] Continue Reading…

Microsoft Windows 7 vs Apple Snow Leopard – Multiprocessing, Networking & Energy consumption

Nowadays, we have a really strange paradox. On one side, there are the hardware manufacturers with their powerful configurations and devices whose processing power, working memory and storage capacity is, to put it mildly, mind-blowing. On the other side, there are the software developers that are trying to keep up with the current progress of the powerful hardware. But when we try to combine these two things and have them communicate with each other, things tend to turn out differently than planed since the software cannot take full advantage of the hardware. This, of course, made many users dissatisfied [...] Continue Reading…

Microsoft Windows7 vs. Apple Snow Leopard

Two of the biggest operating system developers (at least, the commercial ones), Microsoft and Apple are about to release almost at the same time the newest versions of their operating systems – Windows 7 and Snow Leopard. Even now, a lot of people have started debating which one will attract more customers and be able to deal with the increasing and more specific demands of the users.

But the important question is whether one can make a comparison. Which segments should be compared, what kind of tests should be run and for what group of users? Should one pay special [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 in action!

As the date for the official release of Windows 7 is drawing near, this OS has become more and more awe-inspiring to the users who have been actively using its beta version, or the hardware manufactures (we wrote in one of our previous articles how some manufactures have already prepared machines capable of fully utilizing the possibilities of Windows 7). We also mentioned about the multi-touch support in Windows 7 as one of the best implemented features in Windows 7. So it was just a question of time when some of the manufacturers will start releasing products that will [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 and people with special needs

Marginalization of people with special needs who are unfortunate enough to live with some disability is a distant history no one wants to be remembered of. The integration of these people into the society has taken on accelerated speed for ensuring conditions for normal life and work. And when we say work, we also refer to work with computers and all of their capabilities.

Since the operating system is the one that makes work on computer possible it is perfectly understandable that we should start from there. Ever since Windows 95, more precisely 1997, Microsoft has introduced some of the [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 on Netbooks

Netbook computers are small portable computers that appeared in response to the needs of the users that wanted to be accompanied on their journeys with something more powerful than a mobile phone and not as big as a laptop. At first, the purpose of netbook computers was to allow access to the Internet, sending and receiving emails, using chat clients and run some of the office applications. Their size varies from 5 up to 13 inches and their hardware may be able to run less or more powerful operations/processes. One thing, though, is universal about them all. They’re cheap [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 Energy Consumption

Since the destruction of the ozone lair and the increasing consumption of electricity in the world, the manufacturers of all kinds of devices started producing appliances that consume less but continue being effective as they were, or even more. Computers are no exception to this rule and so far the responsible for energy consumption were only the manufacturers of hardware; they optimized the components to consume less and those that were developing software had to simply adapt to the changes.

The giant Microsoft, however, went a step further. The developers at Redmond rightly understood that hardware without software is just [...] Continue Reading…

Windows 7 in Europe

Microsoft and the European Union, especially its branch for protection of companies and customers from monopolistic behavior of individual corporations, have a long history of conflict. Most of the arguments that have gone before the court have been concerning the automatic installation of the Internet Explorer with the OS, which resulted in huge advantage over the other internet browsers. These past years the lawyers from Microsoft spent countless hours in front of judges and commissions trying to explain that users could uninstall Internet Explorer if they wanted to and afterwards simply and effortlessly download and install another browser and [...] Continue Reading…
